(Chem.) A thin, fragrant, colorless oil, HO.C6H4.CHO , found in the flowers of meadow sweet (Spiræa ), and also obtained by oxidation of saligenin, etc. It reddens on exposure. Called alsosalycylol ,salicylic aldehyde , and formerlysalicylous, ∨ spiroylous, acid .
