NL., fr. L. grallae stilts, for gradulae, fr. gradus. See Grade.

Definitions

1. (Zoöl.) An order of birds which formerly included all the waders. By later writers it is usually restricted to the sandpipers, plovers, and allied forms; -- called also Grallatores.
